The Charlotte Quartermaster Depot opened in the old Ford Motor Company plant on Statesville Avenue, supplying Carolinas military bases with everything from bar soap to M1 Garand rifles.

By early 1942 the Charlotte Quartermaster Depot employed 80 Army personnel and more than 2,500 civilians on a 72-acre site with 1.2 million square feet of warehouse space.

The American Graves Registration Division completed its work at the Charlotte Quartermaster Depot, having returned the remains of 5,170 World War II dead to their families across the Southeast between October 1, 1947 and January 15, 1949.
