Free in Charlotte
Charlotte's best-kept secret is how much of it costs nothing. Today, for zero dollars, you can walk the Rail Trail (3.5 flat miles of public art and people-watching), wander Camp North End's 76 acres, and pick from 50 parks and greenway access points in this guide — plus 11 free-admission events on the calendar. The paid attractions are fine; the free ones are the character.
Scope, honestly: "free" here means free admission, and every claim carries its source and date. Prices change, parking and extras are on you, and the source governs — check before you build a day around it.
Free on the calendar
Every event in the guide whose admission is free, straight from the events calendar. Confirmed dates show as dates; anything the organizer hasn't confirmed yet shows its usual window instead.

Free by nature: parks & greenways
Every park and greenway access point in the guide — public green space is the one category where free is the rule. Three are deliberately left off: Daniel Stowe Conservancy and Anne Springs Close Greenway charge admission by their own records, and Wing Haven's admission policy isn't in ours, so it isn't claimed. Extras — boat launches, campsites, rentals — cost even where the gate doesn't.

Free because their own records say so
Places that aren't parks but where the record in this guide states the door is free. Each claim carries that record's source and date. If a famous free evening you've heard about isn't here, it's because no record in this guide states it yet — we don't claim what we can't cite.
Camp North End — free to wander, and the scale is the point: 76 acres of studios, galleries, food stalls and wall-scale art.

Free things this guide built
Ride the Blue Line and the Gold Line — station-by-station ride pages with what's a walk from each platform. Walking the stations costs nothing; the train ticket is the only fare on the whole itinerary.
The guided tours — self-guided walking, biking and driving routes through the guide. No ticket, no group, no schedule.
The Charlotte Bird List — the backyard and greenway birds, with an identifier and a spotting checklist. The birds have always been free.
The events list and the parks list are derived from this guide's data at build time; the claims section quotes specific dated records. Nothing on this page is paid placement — nothing on this page could be.
