The take

Half of a two-block museum cluster on South Tryon, so pair it with the modern collection next door rather than treating it as a lone stop. Craft and design are the strength here — come for the objects, not just the paintings. Fridays run late, until nine.

Questions people ask

Does my ticket cover the other Mint Museum building?

Yes — one general admission ticket covers both Mint Museum Uptown and Mint Museum Randolph for two consecutive days. Adults $15, college students, teachers and seniors 65+ with ID $10, and free for anyone 18 and under and for college art students.

The two buildings are three miles apart, so the two-day window is what makes seeing both practical.

Is admission ever free?

Yes — free every Wednesday from 5 to 9pm, at both buildings.

Where do I park?

The Levine Center for the Arts garage, validated to a $10 maximum before 5pm on weekdays, and a $10 flat fee after 5pm and at weekends.

How long does a visit take?

About two to two and a half hours when special exhibitions are showing.
