On the trail
Ramsey Creek Beach (18441 Nantz Road) is the county's public lake swimming, and it is CLOSED through the end of summer 2026 for drought and low water levels. The rest of the park remains open.

Lake Norman, right now

97.51 ft pool stage at Cowans Ford Dam, read at 4:00 PM.

Its action stage — the lowest flood threshold — is 100 ft.

Duke Energy, which operates the dam, is targeting 98.5 today and reads 97.48 1.02 below target.

The Catawba–Wateree basin is in Stage 2of Duke's Low Inflow Protocol, its drought footing — which is why levels across the chain are below target and some access has closed.

Reservoir pool stage on the dam gauge's own datum — not the full-pond elevation boaters use, and not comparable with another lake's gauge. Gauge live from NOAA's National Water Prediction Service, operating level from Duke Energy.

The take

The rest of the park stays open while the beach does not, which makes this a walking-and-picnic stop for now rather than a swimming one. Whether that has changed is worth checking before you drive — it is a drought closure rather than a permanent one.
