    Two hundred twenty-eight Johnson C. Smith University students, led by J. Charles Jones, marched from the campus gates to stage sit-ins at eight whites-only lunch counters in downtown Charlotte, including Belk, Ivey's, Woolworth's and Kress, eight days after the Greensboro sit-ins began.
