    Traditionalist accounts state that around June 1, 1775, Militia Captain James Jack rode to Philadelphia carrying both the Mecklenburg Declaration and the Mecklenburg Resolves to lay before the Second Continental Congress, and that upon his return he reported the North Carolina delegates had read and approved of the documents (though Congress took no formal action on them).
