The take

Despite the name this is a gated preserve, not a free public path: there's a daily admission fee, with membership if you'll come often. Enter at Lake Haigler for the classic hiking-and-lake day, and know the trail network runs far bigger than one visit covers.

Questions people ask

What does a day pass cost?

$17 an adult, $8 a child aged 3–12, free for under-3s and for members.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes — friendly leashed dogs are welcome on the outdoor trails at no extra charge. The separate Mary Warner Mack Dog Park needs its own paid membership.

What has to be booked in advance?

Photography sessions must be scheduled and paid for beforehand, drone use needs prior approval and a permit, and camping happens only at a few scheduled group events a year rather than on demand.
