Central Avenue east of Plaza Midwood — no rail line runs out here, so arrive by car or bus and take the avenue in stretches; the bus is the 9, which runs the whole length of Central from uptown every 15 minutes or so on weekday daytimes. Start where the international cluster begins around the 2900 blocks: Thanh Huong and Abugida sit shoulder to shoulder with the halal grill at Jasmine Grill. The Central-and-Eastway crossing is the browsing stop — Book Buyers and VisArt Video, the nonprofit rental archive of 50,000-plus titles — and the far end is the old Eastland Mall blocks, where Manolo's Bakery and the Landmark Dineranchor the redevelopment's edge.
