One beat of its history
According to the UNC Charlotte Brooklyn Oral History Project, in 1947 Charlotte's all-white Planning Commission rezoned Brooklyn as industrial land, and by the late 1930s federal redlining practices had already marked the African American community for disinvestment — both preconditions the project's public history cites as groundwork for the later urban renewal demolition.
