    Independence Park, Charlotte's first public park, was established in 1904 on former city-reservoir land within the Elizabeth Heights subdivision, with its interior originally laid out by landscape architect John Nolen while he was still a Harvard graduate student.

  2. 1911

    Developer George Stephens announced plans for Myers Park in 1911, and Boston landscape architect John Nolen produced the neighborhood's original master plan that year, featuring curving streets that followed natural topography and a 110-foot-wide boulevard (Queens Road) as its spine.

  3. 1917

    In 1917 landscape architect Earle Sumner Draper, who had been John Nolen's on-site field supervisor since 1915, took over design of Myers Park, softening Nolen's street curves and adding a second entrance at East Boulevard.

  4. 1922

    George Stephens resigned from active management of the Stephens Company in 1922 and moved to Asheville, after which new management showed less interest in Nolen's and Draper's planning principles and Draper's involvement in Myers Park ended.
