Tours that come through
- Fourth Ward & the Square — A loop through Uptown's four wards, from a 1799 gold nugget to the banking towers it eventually paid for.
- Strategically Convenient — Charlotte has never had a base or a shipyard, and three wars came through anyway — a Revolutionary stand at the Square, the Confederacy's only inland navy yard, a gold mint turned military hospital, the church where the Army announced a city-sized camp, and the depot the Army moved into and left behind. The camp itself is gone; this walk routes what stands.
One beat of its history
The Greenville neighborhood, another majority-Black Charlotte community west of uptown (in Fourth Ward), developed in the 1890s as one of several Black villages ringing the city, alongside communities like Cherry (developed 1891 to promote Black homeownership).
