The take

The churchyard is a rare thing this deep in the city — shaded, walled in green, and older than nearly everything visible from it. The congregation dates to 1832, the oldest parts of the building to 1857. In 1866 its Black members left the balcony to organize the area's first Black Presbyterian congregation — history worth carrying into the visit.

A 9am contemplative service runs in the Chapel outside summer; the church's own page says it pauses for the summer and resumes in September, so it is described rather than given a year-round time.
